Perfect Match

There is only one baby in the history of babies that I have the temperament to babysit and she happens to be my daughter. I’m not just saying this. She is actually a really good baby, the envy of mothers and non-mothers alike. Her most common moods are happy and content. She is also cute. Again, not being biased here. (You have to know me on Facebook to see for yourself.) She even looks a bit like me when I was a baby, only more animated, almond-eyed, and petite.

She won’t always be so small. One day her favorite mobile won’t interest her, and will sit in storage collecting dust. But I’ll be too busy fielding questions or teaching songs to feel melancholy about that. I know from experience what she doesn’t need. Surely I’ll have to scold her or disappoint her one day, as well as simply love her and be in awe of her. But I won’t do it without reason or conviction. All that stops here.

Yes, John Mayer

Posted by Paul at February 14th, 2010

I’m bestowing the title of Pop Culture Douchebag of the Year on John Mayer. Once a mainstream music critic’s darling, he’ll soon realize they all now put “yes” before his name as a qualifier, as if to apologize for mentioning him.

Someone said Mayer acts as if he’s too hip to ever be caught listening to the type of music he himself plays. I think that sums him up pretty well.

Now he’s having some kind of breakdown because he used the “N” word and has to go cry about it on TV.

Or how about the time he sang and played acoustic guitar for a small group of female fans, but first he asks them: “How long do you think I’ll play before I make you cry..?” Then he plays the song and makes each of them weep, one at a time. Man, that’s epic. If I gave out Ego of the Century he’d be a lock.

Out on a limb

Ooh… Meghan McCain disagrees with something Sara Palin said. You know what? Even if you’re John McCain’s daughter it doesn’t make you a maverick when you disagree with Sarah Palin. It doesn’t even make you worthy of praise. It just makes you sane.

It was easy to disagree with John McCain on some issues and still respect him as a U.S. Senator, until the Summer of 2008. He may have secretly disliked Palin as a VP, but the final decision was his. He had to believe Palin was an acceptable choice for President should he be unable to complete his term. If he was fooling himself on this crucial point, that’s even more scary. Maybe the most reckless thing a nominee for president has ever done.

Hey, I disagree with Pat Robertson. Anyone impressed?
